| Descrizione | General sketch (not to scale) illustrating the migration of depositional facies in transgressive and regressive phases of sea level within an ideal subsurface stratigraphic sequence. The facies maps for the depositional units corresponding to times T3 T5 and T7 are shown. At time T3 we have the maximum of marine transgression, and coastal marine facies are in the landward innermost position. At time T5 we are in a regressive phase where the beach facies (and coastline) have moved basinward. Therefore at time-units T3 and T5, wells A, B and C will cross different facies. The units corresponding to times T7-T8 are sedimented on the coast during an abrupt drop in sea level (forced regression) and correspond landward to an erosion surface (unconformity); landward during this time we will have predominantly non-deposition, except for valleys incised by streams where fluvial and deltaic sediments may accumulate. The incised channel above the erosion surface will belong to units-times T7-T8, although laterally it is contiguous with the beach facies of unit T6. |
