Shanna McCullough cresce nella San Francisco Bay Area. A scuola partecipa al corso di teatro e recita in drammi e musical. Continua gli studi frequentando il college, dove si laurea in contabilità. Lavora per due anni come elettricista e poi come tecnico veterinario^[2]. All'inizio degli anni ottanta Shanna e suo marito diventano scambisti; nello stesso periodo entra in possesso di un Boa constrictor che, qualche tempo dopo, apparirà assieme a lei in Deviations, suo film d'esordio. Entra nell'industria del porno rispondendo a un annuncio su un giornale di San Francisco. Debutta nel 1983 in una scena con l'attore Mike Horner; la sua prima scena lesbo la gira invece con Hyapatia Lee. Dopo aver cominciato a lavorare nel mondo della pornografia si esibisce anche come ballerina nei night club.
