I 5 Seconds of Summer si sono formati a [[Sydney]] nel corso del 2011 per iniziativa di Luke Hemmings (voce e chitarra), che aveva già fatto alcune cover sul web, Michael Clifford (voce e chitarra) e Calum Hood (voce e basso).
