Oltre a ripercorrere, in ordine sparso, buona parte della produzione del gruppo sia in studio che dal vivo dal 1970 al 1992 (cioè dal debutto fino a Black Moon, all'epoca ultimo album pubblicato), la raccolta comprende varie tracce inedite, alcune delle quali furono incise appositamente dal trio nel 1993 e figurano tutte assieme all'inizio del primo volume: di queste ultime, quattro sono rivisitazioni di brani che i singoli membri avevano originariamente inciso o eseguito con altre formazioni:

Gli altri due brani del 1993 sono rifacimenti rispettivamente di: Pictures at an Exhibition – prima e unica versione in studio – e del singolo I Believe in Father Christmas di Greg Lake, che il trio aveva già rivisitato sull'album: Works Volume 2 (1977).[1]

I restanti tre inediti risalgono invece agli anni settanta:

  • una versione di Rondo della durata di oltre 14 minuti, registrata dal vivo in concerto al Lyceum Theatre di Londra il 9 dicembre 1970;
  • Bo Diddley, strumentale registrato nel 1975 e sviluppato sul tema del brano The Yodel (1966) dell'organista blues jazz "Big" John Patton.
  • una versione in studio (1971) del brano di Friedrich Gulda per pianoforte solo Prelude and Fugue che Emerson citò anche all'interno della traccia Piano Improvisations (dal triplo album dal vivo del 1974), anch'essa inclusa qui come parte di Take a Pebble (Live Version).[1]
