Ernest Renshaw ha battuto nella finale del torneo preliminare Ernest Wool Lewis per 7–9, 6–1, 8–6, 6–4, nel Challenge Round ha sconfitto il detentore del titolo Herbert Lawford per 6–3, 7–5, 6–0.[1][2]

È stato il primo titolo a Wimbledon per Renshaw, per Lawford è stata la quinta sconfitta sulle sei finali raggiunte
