English: High school students in Laos, who had never before seen Lincoln Logs or other construction toys, create a rambling house. Many homes in Laos are built on stilts, and so the students followed that design. The abundance of very short pieces were used for railings, steps and (not visible) a fence.
This was one of more than 30 hands-on activities offered at a "Discovery Day" sponsored by Big Brother Mouse, a literacy and education project. Non-rote, interactive educational opportunities are rare in Laos. The Discovery Days include more than 30 activities such as bridge-building, anatomy models, fossil and mineral collections, optical illusions, microscopes, and number games.
