Nel 2021 interpreta Seong Gi-hun nella serie drammatica Squid Game, per la quale riceve il plauso della critica ed ottiene una candidatura ai Golden Globe come miglior attore in una serie drammatica e la vittoria di un Critics' Choice Television Award e di uno Screen Actors Guild Awards.
