Il 23 novembre 2013 la rotta Newark-Singapore, chiusa per motivi economici, è stata riaperta il 11 ottobre 2018 con un altro tipo di aereo (Airbus A350).
Nella primavera del 2020, a fronte della pandemia mondiale dovuta al [[COVID-19]], la rotta Newark-Singapore viene sospesa. Successivamente, nell'autunno dello stesso anno, [[Singapore Airlines]] annuncia la ripresa del collegamento fra New York e Singapore a partire dal 9 novembre, volando non più su [[Aeroporto Internazionale di Newark|Newark]] ma sul [[Aeroporto Internazionale John F. Kennedy|JFK]].
La rotta risulta la più lunga al mondo in termini di distanza fra tutti i voli di linea diretti, è caratterizzata infatti da 3 opzioni di percorrenza che variano in base alla stagione e al piano di volo previsto in relazione alle condizioni meteorologiche: Sorvolando il [[Polo nord|Polo]] Nord attraverso le linee meridiane, volando verso Ovest, oppure verso Est. (Essa viene coperta dal moderno Airbus A350-900 dotato dei comfort necessari a rendere maggiormente sopportabile per i passeggeri un viaggio di tale portata).
