La '''Legio II ''Flavia Constantia''''' (''di Flavio Costanzo'') era una [[legione romana]] [[comitatense]] creata da [[Diocleziano]], probabilmente nel [[296]] o [[297]].
La II ''Flavia ConstatinaConstatia'' fu formata assieme alla [[Legio I Maximiana|I ''Maximiana'']] per difendere la provincia della ''Thebaidos'', appena creata nella divisione dell'[[Aegyptus]]. Il nome della legione è associata a [[Costanzo Cloro]] (Flavio Costanzo), che come ''[[cesare (titolo)|cesare]]'' regnava sull'oriente. La II ''Flavia Constantia'' rimase a [[Cusae|Cusas]] fino all'epoca della stesura della ''[[Notitia dignitatum]]''.<ref>[[s:la:Notitia_dignitatum_partibus_orientis_-_XXI_XLV#XXXI|''Notitia dignitatum partibus orientis'' xxxi]].</ref>

La creazione della nuova unità potrebbe essere ricondotta all'imperatore [[Teodosio I]] e alla sua politica di inserire alcune popolazioni barbare all'interno dell'organico dell'esercito romano: le truppe barbare sarebbero state mischiate ad altre prelevate dalla legione egiziana, e inviate a presidiare la [[Macedonia (provincia romana)|Macedonia]], ponendo il proprio comando a [[Tessalonica]].<ref>[[Zosimo (storico)|Zosimo]], iv.30-31.</ref>

The impulse for this split was probably given by a measure of [[Theodosius I]], to mix a part of the Barbarians, which were passed over to him, with the troops in Egypt. These barbarians were added to the Egyptian troops and their accompanying commander in Macedonia (Zosimus IV 30 and 31), who resided at that time in [[Thessalonica]]. A part of II ''Flavia Constantia'' belonged to these ''Aiguptioi'' (Egyptians). It is fitting that at this time the legion II ''Flavia Valentis Thebaeorum'' (''Not or.'' VII 11 = 46), which accompanied the troops in the Notitia and was named after and probably raised by Emperor Valens, was no longer mentioned with the garrison of Thebaidos (''Not. or.'' XXXI), because of the short time it stayed in the province.
