Le elezioni parlamentari negli Stati Uniti d'America del 2018 si sono tenute il 6 novembre e insieme alle elezioni governatoriali hanno costituito le cosiddette elezioni di metà mandato (Midterm Elections) a metà del mandato del Presidente Donald Trump. Sono stati sottoposti ad elezione tutta la Camera dei rappresentanti e i 33 seggi del Senato appartenenti alla classe 1. Si sono svolte anche le elezioni speciali per due seggi del Senato di classe 2 a seguito delle dimissioni dei due senatori che li occupavano.[1]
Senato modifica
Prima delle elezioni, i Repubblicani, in Senato, avevano una maggioranza di 51 senatori a 49 per i Democratici. I Democratici avevano quindi bisogno per riottenere la maggioranza di conquistare 2 seggi.
Dei 33 seggi di classe 1 che si rinnovavano nelle elezioni del 2018, 25 erano detenuti dai democratici (compresi 2 indipendenti di area democratica) e 8 dai repubblicani. I senatori eletti hanno iniziato il loro mandato il 3 gennaio 2019 per concluderlo il 3 gennaio 2025.
Dei 2 seggi di classe 2 sottoposti ad elezioni speciali nel 2018, uno era detenuto dai democratici e uno dai repubblicani. I senatori eletti hanno iniziato il loro mandato immediatamente dopo le elezioni per concluderlo il 3 gennaio 2021.
Le elezioni hanno determinato il guadagno di 2 seggi da parte dei repubblicani che hanno ottenuto il Dakota del Nord, Florida, Indiana e Missouri prima in mano ai democratici, perdendo invece quelli di Arizona e Nevada. Il nuovo Senato è risultato quindi composto da 53 repubblicani e 47 democratici con la maggioranza rimasta in mano ai repubblicani.

Prima delle elezioni, la Camera dei rappresentanti era controllata dai Repubblicani con una maggioranza di 240 deputati a 195. I Democratici avevano quindi bisogno per riottenere la maggioranza di conquistare 23 seggi. I deputati eletti hanno iniziato il loro mandato il 3 gennaio 2019 per concluderlo il 3 gennaio 2021.
I democratici hanno incrementato i loro seggi alla Camera di 40 unità vincendo 43 seggi precedentemente in mano ai Repubblicani e perdendone 3. La maggioranza passa quindi in mano ai Democratici.
