L'album segue il percorso tracciato dal precedente lavoro Versus the World, con canzoni che risultano più lente e pesanti rispetto alle prime produzioni del gruppo. Il cantante e frontman Johan Hegg in un'intervista ha dichiarato:
«The sound is more mature than on previous albums. I think the foundation for this sound started when we changed studios from Abyss to Berno when we got to working with Berno Paulsson. We improved the sound a lot for this album. We were able to make all the instruments work better together and still make them prominent one by one in the production as well. We were also able to keep the heaviness and brutality we need to be Amon Amarth.»
«Il sound è più maturo rispetto agli album precedenti. Io penso che il cambiamento sia cominciato quando abbiamo cambiato studios e siamo passati dagli Abyss ai Berno dove abbiamo collaborato con Berno Paulson. Abbiamo migliorato molto il sound per questo album, siamo stati abili a far lavorare meglio gli strumenti tutti insieme, ma contemporaneamente a lasciarli prominenti. Siamo stati abili anche a mantenere la pesantezza e la brutalità di cui hanno bisogno gli Amon Amarth.»
Un'edizione limitata dell'album comprende un DVD Bonus intitolato "Amon Amarth live at Grand Rokk" contenente una ripresa di 45 minuti del concerto tenuto a Reykjavík, Islanda, il 5 marzo 2004.
Prima della pubblicazione dell'album, la Metal Blade ha distribuito alcuni promo contenenti materiale extra come la biografia del gruppo e alcune foto. Della traccia Pursuit of Vikings è stato girato un videoclip.
