  • Poster showing uniforms and insignia of the Waffen-SS at the beginning of World War II.
See SS uniforms of World War II 1939–1945: SS uniforms during World War II underwent significant changes. Initially, the grey service uniforms adopted a more military appearance, resembling Wehrmacht attire. In 1942, black uniforms were recalled and repurposed for other units. The Waffen-SS adopted a grey-green field uniform, similar to the German Army's, while Panzer troops wore a unique black uniform. Camouflage clothing became common, and the Allgemeine-SS cadres stuck to their earth-grey service dress.
