Jacob Still Deutsch Blakesley è traduttore letterario di narrativa e poesia. E' professore associato in letterature comparate e traduzione letteraria all'University of Leeds, [1] dove co-dirige il Leeds Centre for Dante Studies.[2] Ha vinto un premio - il 2018 NEA Literature Translation Fellowship - per un progetto di tradurre il poeta Edoardo Sanguineti.[3]
Le sue traduzioni poetiche dall'italiano e dall'altre lingue sono state pubblicate in Chicago Review,[4] Comparative Critical Studies,[5] Poetry Miscellany,[6] e Stand.[7] E' attualmente direttore della John Dryden Translation Competition.[8]
Ha tradotto e curato un'antologia di narrativa italiana del Novecento, Great Italian Short Stories of the Twentieth-Century, la quale è stata pubblicata da Dover nel 2013.[9]
Ha pubblicato due monografie, Modern Italian Poets: Translators of the Impossible[10] e A Sociological Approach to Poetry Translation: modern European poet-translators.[11] Ha anche curato un volume intitolato Sociologies of Poetry Translation: Emerging Perspectives,[12] e ha co-curato due numeri speciali di riviste sulla traduzione poetica [13] e l'autore britannico Tony Harrison.[14]
