Gilardoni S.p.A. is an Italian company established in 1947 by Dr. Eng. Arturo Gilardoni, which operates in the x-ray sector. It consists of 3 main business areas: Medical, being also an OEM supplier of qualified components, Security and Non-destructive testing (NDT). Its headquarter is located in Mandello del Lario, in the province of Lecco, on the eastern shore of Lake Como, with the picturesque Grigna mountain in the background.

Gilardoni was born to an intuition of the Dr. Eng. Arturo Gilardoni which, in 1932, designs and patents the first metalloscope based on the method of the magnetic particles. This idea will work as a trailblazer in the field of Non-destructive testing and, in 1947, will become a tangible reality through the establishment of Gilardoni company.

From the beginning Gilardoni specializes in the field of Medical Radiology, helping private and public health facilities in the making of useful medical equipment. In the seventies Gilardoni addresses the security sector, testing and designing equipment for airport inspection and for the detection of weapons, solid and liquid explosives and drugs. In the same decade the company develops some devices that are still used for checking the quality and security of industrial products.

Among the various equipment designed and patented by the company Gilardoni include:

  • The first x-ray monoblocks with high frequency generator mainly used in surgery
  • The first selenium rectifiers that today are widely used in numerous fields
  • The first monoblock for 360 metallography used today for the detection of TAC and for non-destructive testing
  • The first Italian betatron, designed and build in the forties by Donald William Kerst
  • The first Italian ultrasound device used for different therapies
  • The first homothetic tomograph
  • The first high-resolution mammography device for the detection of breast tumors and nodules
  • The first device for baggage checking

Dr. Eng. Arturo Gilardoni was a member of the Italian Society of Medical Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and he presented over 500 technical scientific publications object of the major national and international congress in various fields. Important collaborations over the years have been with different academic realities, among which we remember the participations at the Milan Polytechnic (of which Gilardoni is a member of the Scientific Committee) and the University of Durham in England.

Gilardoni today modifica

Gilardoni company currently have two facilities, the main one is located in Mandello del Lario and uses photovoltaic panels to meet the energy needs of the factory trying to be more eco-compatible. In this facility are also located Gilardoni’s Research & Development Laboratories that in 1985 have been recognized as ''Highly Qualified ''.

The company have developed products in the following fields:

  • Biomedical: in which it operates also as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
  • Non-Destructive Testing: in which it is the owner of many patents in many fields
  • Security: in which it is expanding their range of products, investing a lot researching new ways to automate airport system and to combat terrorism

Certifications and awards modifica

Gilardoni is a company that works respecting quality management systems, currently certified and corresponding to ISO 9001: 2008.

Furthermore, the Gilardoni company uses and designs instruments that respect the standards and protocols found in Italian and international regulations, including the certification with quality system according to ISO 13485: 2012 which deals with medical devices.

In 1938, Dr. Eng. Arturo Gilardoni was awarded the Leonardo Da Vinci prize promoted by the Italian Association of Industrial Designers for the construction of an X-ray lightning generator.

Gilardoni Research & Development Laboratories have been recognized as ''Highly Qualified '' by Ministerial Decree dated 9-10-1985, L.46 / 82 art.4.
