Biografia

Nato a Roma, ha iniziato giovanissimo a interessarsi alla natura ed alla fotografia. Si è laureato in Scienze Naturali all'università di Roma, La Sapienza, ottenendo in seguito anche un Ph.D. in biologia animale nella stessa università, per la quale ha svolto diverse attività di ricerca scientifica. Già prima di terminare gli studi ha partecipato a numerose iniziative di conservazione della natura e, nel 1992 ha intrapreso la carriera di fotografo naturalista, unendo le sue due grandi passioni: la fotografia e la natura. Negli anni, si è specializzato nel racconto della vita degli animali selvatici, degli ambienti naturali e di come l’uomo interagisce con essi. Il Lavoro di Roberto è focalizzato sulle tematiche di conservazione della natura, con particolare attenzione al rapporto tra l'uomo e la fauna. Ha partecipato a numerosi progetti con associazioni, università e enti di conservazione attivi in tutto il modo. Nel 1992, assieme al suo amico di lunga data Alberto Cambone, fonda la Homo ambiens, una struttura che si occupa di raccogliere immagini foto e video di natura e di supportare iniziative di conservazione della natura a livello internazionale.

Le immagini di Roberto Isotti sono state esposte in numerose mostre personali, sia in Italia che all'estero (Inghilterra, Francia, Belgio, Germania) e le sue immagini sono state utilizzate in molte campagne internazionali per la conservazione della natura. Contribuisce alla realizzazione di archivi fotografici, aperti a chiunque lavori per la protezione della natura, fornendo immagini al WWF, Greenpeace, Wildscreen, ARKive, Survival, Unesco e numerosi enti locali.

Pubblicazioni

Ha partecipato alla pubblicazione di molte opere editoriali e ha pubblicato 5 libri fotografici: "Dama, un sentiero in comune" (Pandion Edizioni, 2016), "Italia, patrimonio dell’umanità"(Touring Editore, 2015), "Castelporziano, un racconto per immagini" (Pandion Edizioni, 2014), "Orso marsicano, lo spirito del bosco" (Carsa Edizioni, 2014), "Le meraviglie del pianeta terra" (Touring Editore, 2011). I suoi lavori sono stati pubblicati sulle più importanti riviste internazionali tra cui: National Geographic, BBC Wildlife, Terre Sauvage, Nat’Images, Airone, Focus Wild, Oasis.

WILDLIFE CONSERVATION PHOTOGRAPHY “La Conservation Photography è un settore della fotografia naturalistica frutto dell’evoluzione che questo attività ha subito negli ultimi anni, anche grazie alle nuove priorità imposte dal crescente consapevolezza del degrado cui sono sottoposti gli ambienti naturali. La Conservation Photography concentra le proprie attenzioni su iniziative di conservazione della natura, nella convinzione che la fotografia possa dare un notevole contributo alla ricerca scientifica, alla documentazione degli ambienti naturali, all'educazione e alla sensibilizzazione ambientale. La rivoluzione introdotta dalla Conservation Photography implica però un cambiamento ancora maggiore, al centro dell’attenzione del fotografo non c’è più soltanto l’estetica dell’immagine, quello che conta ora è il significato dell’immagine, il suo valore etico, il contributo che essa può dare alla conservazione della specie o dell’ambiente riprodotto. Il “nuovo” fotografo naturalista deve saper cogliere anche gli aspetti critici e le fragilità dell’ambiente; deve cioè studiare a fondo ciò che intende fotografare, collaborando strettamente con ricercatori, enti ed associazione che lavorano sul territorio. La Conservation Photography comporta, anche, una responsabilità nei metodi di lavoro e nelle tecniche adottate. Con l’idea è che è meglio perdere una buona occasione fotografica che compromettere, qualche volta irreparabilmente, l’integrità di animali e ambienti fragili.” Da un intervista di Roberto Isotti

Partendo da queste convinzioni Roberto, insieme a Micòl Ricci e Alberto Cambone, ha promosso il progetto no-profit WILDLIFE CONSERVATION PHOTOGRAPHY (WCP). INDONESIA “Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, designated by UNESCO as “Cluster Mountainous Tropical Rainforest Heritage Site of Sumatra”, is an important habitat for the Sumatra rabbit, which is endemic to the island and which IUCN has given the stratus of Critically Endangered. In the last 35 years, the Sumatra rabbit has only been seen 3 times: in 1972, directly witnessed a scientist; then in 1998, an international team photographed one of these rabbits. Finally, Roberto Isotti and Alberto Cambone photographed the Sumatra rabbit in the Park in 2008, adding important information about its existence. WWF is now working together with BBSNP authority on campaigning to combat threats to the area”.
