I'm a regitered user of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a multilingual Web-based free-content encyclopedia. It is written collaboratively by volunteers with a software, which allows articles to be added or changed by nearly anyone. The project is operated by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation.

The Wikipedia Project encourages editors to uphold a policy of "neutral point of view" in their articles, covering every field of human knowledge (among which there is music, of course).

I'm currently the main editor of the article about Opeth in Italian language, and I'm trying to make it the most thorough, by gathering information from my personal knowledge and helped by other active users.

Wikipedia's articles are made available under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL), one of many "copyleft" licenses letting the redistribution, creation of derivative works, and commercial use of content - provided its authors are attributed - and this content remains available under the GFDL.

Aiming to create a complete article on Opeth, I was going to insert some pictures of the band and the album covers, but here lies the problem: in wikipedia no copyrighted material can be published without the explicit authorization of author.

In United States there's a proper institute called "Fair Use" that provides for the legitimacy of non-licensed citation or incorporation of copyrighted material in another author's work. But in Italy we don't have anything similar to this insitute, and the only way to publish copyrighted images is to receive a specific permission from the author.

I wrote this message to illustrate what Wikipedia projects consist of, and to ask the authorization to publish on Italian Wikipedia one Opeth photo and the front covers of the albums.
