The Green Line was not established in 1974, after the Turkish intervention, but in 1964, after the "Bloody Christmas" of 1963 when Greek Cypriots began a pogrom over the Turkish Cypriots. Italian Wikipedia has no reason to give space to lies. Simply find an objective source (not necessarily independent or neutral) and you will learn about how the Island of Cyprus was divided because the Greek Cypriots wanted to eliminate the Turks and get all the island for themselves. Surprised? Then you are not a Greek Cypriot or Greek -who know all this very well- but an innocent Italian who never heard these facts. --E4024 (msg) 05:33, 20 ott 2021 (CEST)
- Sorry, we can agree that the a line has been draft on a map after a riot on 1963/4, but we should remember that until the military action from Turkey, Cyprus was an indipendend nation, politically undivided, ruled by one presidente: Makarios III. The explosion of the short conflict between Grece and Turkey broken that situation, and the actual political subdivison of the island (against NU) is caused by that war and the Turkey invasion. - Sorry, when you write the Bloody Christmas article here, in an objective way, then I will give consideration to your opinions. "Riot"? What riot? It was a pogrom. That pogrom is the reason of the existence of the Green Line. That is something that no reader understands clearly from this article. Never mind, though, whatever Wikipedia says or hides, in the end history writes itself. Maratha, Santalaris and Aloda massacre is not here, either. Why? Do Italian speaking Wikipedians consider Turkish lives as worthless as not to write a lousy WP article about their assassination? --E4024 (msg) 15:15, 25 ott 2021 (CEST)
- @E4024: please, read en:Wikipedia:Assume good faith (Wikipedia:Presumi la buona fede) and en:Wikipedia:No personal attacks (Wikipedia:Niente attacchi personali). The italian Wikipedia article about the Cypriote "Bloody Christmas" is Natale di Sangue di Cipro that exists from june 2020, so there aren't reasons to be so aggressive with the other users.
- About the question: the first "Green Line" was extablished at the end of 1963 by the british peacekeeping force after the massacres of the "Bloody Christmas", but in origin it was limited to the capital Nicosia and its suburbs. The modern day coast-to-coast "Green Line" was extablished in 1974, after the Turkish invasion of the island, with the "Geneva Declaration" between the foreign ministers of United Kingdom, Grece and Turkey ([1]); note that today "Green Line" is only a nickname: the official designation of the line is "United Nations Buffer Zone in Cyprus". - Thanks for indicating the Natale di Sangue di Cipro article that I had missed! Now this is another reason that I should be right in making a report about the user, who instead of correcting the wrong (red) link simply reverted my edits. (BTW I see something "good" like I have contributed to the development of a culture of discussion instead of outright reverts in this article. Happy! :) I wish we had all discussed here before going to UP. OTOH (on the other hand) If you know this much about the facts of Cyprus, when are you planning to ask the UN about why they formed a peace force in March 1964? - If you are unsatisfied about the level of italian Wikipedia's articles about modern history of Cyprus, you can edit the articles adding new text and citing new reliable sources (en:Wikipedia:Reliable sources, Wikipedia:Fonti attendibili), all with the appropriate neutral point of view (en:Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:Punto di vista neutrale).
