L'isola è stata esplorata per la prima volta e battezzata dalla spedizione di [[Georgij Alekseevič Ušakov|Georgij Ušakov]] e [[Nikolaj Nikolaevič Urvancev|Nikolaj Urvancev]] del [[1930]] - [[1932|32]].
