William Renshaw ha battuto in finale del torneo preliminare Harry Barlow per 3–6, 5–7, 8–6, 10–8, 8–6, nel Challenge Round ha sconfitto il detentore del titolo Ernest Renshaw per 6–4, 6–1, 3–6, 6–0.[1][2]

È stato il settimo titolo a Wimbledon per William Renshaw che ha così stabilito un record superato solo nel 2017 da Roger Federer. Questa è stata inoltre la terza finale di Wimbledon giocata tra i due gemelli Renshaw e in tutte le occasioni ha avuto la meglio William.
