Lo stile dell'album è decisamente diverso da quello del precedente album, Tiger and the Duke. La band ha infatti fatto un massiccio uso di musica elettronica, ha usato la voce di un soprano ed ha inserito diversi campionamenti nelle canzoni.

- Il titolo dell'album ("Lover, the Lord Has Left Us...) è il verso di una canzone dei Planes Mistaken For Stars.
- La canzone "Skullflower" è stata pubblicata su Purevolume dalla band l'11 aprile 2006 come anteprima dell'album.
- Il verso "Flesh is heretic. My body is a witch, I am burning it." dalla canzone "The Heretic" è ripreso da "Act II: All is Ash or the Light Shining Through It", dall'album Tiger and the Duke.
- La voce su "There Can Be No Dispute That Monsters Live Among Us" è quella del padre di Rich Balling.
- "St. Brodarick is in Antarctica" è probabilmente riferita a Justin Brodarick, la cui band è ritenuta un'importante influenza nel sound della band.
