Il campionato piloti, la cui contesa si restringe presto ai soli Álvaro Bautista e Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, vede lo spagnolo iniziare con quindici vittorie nelle prime sedici prove. Nella seconda parte di stagione, a cavallo tra i Gran Premi di Most e Magny-Cours, Razgatlıoğlu riesce a ricucire il divario in termine di punti portandolo al di sotto di cinquanta. Con otto vittorie consecutive a fine campionato Bautista si conferma campione del mondo.[1][2] Terzo posto in campionato per Jonathan Rea che ottiene un successo in gara1 a Most.[3]

La sesta edizione del Trofeo Indipendenti, viene vinta da Axel Bassani campione in carica. Bassani, gareggiando spesso per le primissime posizioni, ottiene due piazzamenti a podio e chiude con circa venti punti di vantaggio sull'esordiente Danilo Petrucci (tre piazzamenti a podio in campionato).[2] Terzo posto per Dominique Aegerter, anch'egli alla prima stagione in Superbike.

La classifica costruttori vede primeggiare Ducati con ventotto successi su trentasei prove disputate ed un margine di oltre cento punti su Yamaha. Yamaha che a sua volta sopravanza Kawasaki di cento e più punti centrando il podio in tutte le gare tranne una. Quarto posto per BMW che ottiene la pole position a Magny-Cours con lo statunitense Garrett Gerloff.[4] Quinta Honda, a podio a Mandalika con Xavi Vierge.

Tutte le motociclette in competizione sono equipaggiate con pneumatici forniti dalla Pirelli. Contestualmente alla classifica mondiale, vi sono alcuni piloti (indicati in tabella come piloti della "classe IND") che concorrono per il trofeo indipendenti (vi partecipano infatti i piloti dei team che non sono di diretta emanazione di una casa motociclistica).
