Il detentore del titolo Novak Đoković viene sconfitto in semifinale da Roger Federer.

In finale Federer ha la meglio su Andy Murray per 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4, raggiungendo quota diciassette Slam vinti, ed eguaglia il primato di Sampras con sette titoli a Wimbledon.[1]

Federer scavalca così Đoković in cima alla classifica mondiale e supera il record di 286 settimane al vertice appartenente a Pete Sampras.[2]

Andy Murray è il primo britannico in finale nel singolare maschile di Wimbledon dal 1938.

Questa edizione vede l'ultima partecipazione degli ex finalisti David Nalbandian e Andy Roddick.
